The Longacres Mile already carried the weight of Pacific Northwest racing history. In 1981, Trooper Seven won it for a second consecutive year before a record Longacres crowd. For Jeffrey's father, Sardara, winning the Mile remained the dream that racing never fulfilled.

In February 1998, Jeffrey and trainer Ted West claimed Budroyale for $50,000 at Santa Anita. The gelding had just finished ninth on the turf. Jeffrey remembered the ability he had seen earlier in the horse and trusted the eye of the West family.

Budroyale arrived at Emerald Downs as a serious contender, but his first Longacres Mile ended in seventh place. The result made the goal more personal. The family dream was still waiting.

One year later Budroyale returned. Garrett Gomez kept him close to the pace, moved on the far turn, and held off Mike K. by one half length. The clock stopped at 1:34.60. Jeffrey Sengara had won the race his father had always wanted.
